Send Naihomy encouraging words!💕
Sugar is hiding in your "healthy" food and sabotaging your energy, focus, and hormones without you even knowing it. We reveal how to identify hidden sugars, manage your blood sugar effectively, and still enjoy sweet treats without compromising your health.
• Sugar Mama is a six-week intensive small group program starting April 23rd
• Even "healthy" foods like bread and peanut butter can contain significant hidden sugars
• That post-meal "food coma" is actually a blood sugar crash that can be prevented
• There are over 100 different names for sugar on food labels designed to confuse consumers
• Understanding blood sugar management is foundational for energy, weight management, hormones, and long-term health
• The program focuses on education and empowerment, not restriction
• Sugar-free alternatives often contain problematic sugar alcohols and still trigger insulin responses
• The group format provides community, accountability, and shared wisdom in a supportive environment
• The investment is $355 for the six-week program with limited spots available
If you're interested in joining Sugar Mama, DM me, email me, or book a consultation call through the link in my bio. The last day to join is April 9th, and there are only seven spots remaining.

Hello friends, welcome back to another episode of Wealthy Generation Podcast. So today's episode is going to be a recording from an Instagram live that I did where I was sharing information, details and doing a bit of a Q&A for Sugar Mama. Sugar Mama is my small group intensive program that's going to be launching April 23rd, where we are going to talk about and dive deep into all things sugar. We're going to identify hidden sugars in your food, audit your sugar intake and learn how to enjoy sweets without messing with your health. Right, it's not about cutting out entire food groups or the stuck in the joy out of eating, and food is more about making informed choices so that you can enjoy your food without putting your body through the struggle bus. Okay, I go into way more details in this live. I just wanted to tee it up, introduce it for you so that you know the difference and kind of what's happening in this episode. And, as always, if you want to join the program, just go ahead and DM me. You can email me, you can LinkedIn me. However, you want to get in program, just go ahead and DM me. You can email me, you can LinkedIn me. However you want to get in contact with me. Links are in bio. You can also book a consultation call to talk more about Sugar Mama and, if this makes sense for you, okay, I'm excited for you to listen in, hear all the details and reach out if you have any questions. I'll see y'all next week. Bye, hello friends.
Speaker 1:It is Naomi Jerez, your food and hormone health coach. I am on here to talk a little bit about Sugar Mama. It is my upcoming intensive group program. It's going to be a small group program, eight people max, where we are going to deep dive in all things sugar. But don't worry, it's nothing scary. It's all like knowledge, information, how to apply it in a way that you can enjoy sweets without all this like noise going on in your head or strong cravings or anything like that, and I've been receiving questions about it. So I just wanted to cover a lot of them here and see if you have questions along the way so that I can answer them for you. So I'm just going to go over a little bit of the details, or all of the details basically, plus answering some questions that have come up, so that you are informed, well aware of, like everything happening, so that it's helpful for you to make a decision if you want to join or not. If you have any reservations or not, you can go ahead and ask them here, cool, Cool. So I'm just going to tell you a little bit about what it's going to consist of and then I'm going to quickly get into the questions that people have been having about Sugar Mama.
Speaker 1:First of all, let's talk about the name a little bit. I just thought it was fun Sugar Mama. They usually have a lot of money or whatever. I thought it was just fun. Also, it's very in line. Sometimes I hear a lot of women say that they are always craving sugar, that they always want sugar. So I thought it was something that would capture attention, can possibly be relatable and is kind of a little bit of play on words because it's not meaning exactly what the definition is for. Okay. So I'm going to be looking to the side a little bit because, although I created all of this and it came out of my brain, I can't remember all the details sometimes. So I'm looking through my doc where I have been planning everything on Cool.
Speaker 1:So Sugar Mama, like I said, is an intimate group program. It is just six weeks long, so it's an intensive where we're going to be going through information, having homework, coaching in a very short amount of time, but a very impactful amount of time where you can get a lot of things done in that time. Okay, so what we're going to do is we're going to identify hidden triggers in your food and we're going to stop or help calm down those sneaky blood sugar crashes that make you tired, that make you feel like you have that foggy brain that they talk about. You can't think clearly, your energy's all over the place, and hidden sugars is a real deal thing. I was just coaching one of my clients today and she was like oh, I had an egg and a toast with peanut butter. What do you think of that meal? And my direct response was not oh, that's a good meal, oh, that's a bad meal, all this or that?
Speaker 1:My first question was what kind of peanut butter are you using and what kind of bread are you using? You know why? Because in the bread and in the peanut butter that she was using, there was hidden sugars in there, added sugars. So, without her even knowing, in a meal that is seems healthy, right, whole grains, healthy, right, whole grains, nut butters, protein there was about seven grams of sugar hidden in her meal. Okay, and one of her goals is to lose fat from her body. Right, she has this layer of fat right under her skin. She feels it.
Speaker 1:It was confirmed to her by a DEXA scan and she was just like I just want to get this layer of fat off, and I was like one of the main things that we need to do is we need to start to eliminate, take a little bit of a deeper dive into your food. We spoke about exercise too, but this is like focusing on food and eliminate those hidden sugars that are in these meals. You can have the same exact meal. You can have eggs with bread and peanut butter and just because of the choices that you're making with reduced sugar can make a huge impact. So that's number one thing that we're going to be doing identifying those hidden sugars. The next thing is is we're going to be taking an audit right of your food and how it affects your body, one of the main. Actually, in week one, we're going to be covering, or we're going to be talking about, self-awareness how do you feel when you eat certain things?
Speaker 1:I think there's this big confusion between being bloated and being full. Right, sometimes we think we're full because we're bloated, not because we're actually full, and then a few hours later, like two hours later, we're hungry again and we're like, wait a second, I thought I was really full and now I'm really hungry again. But oftentimes it's just bloating, and sometimes that's happening because of the sugar crashes that are going on inside, because we're not even aware, to no fault of our own, that we're having so much excess sugar. And is not always the obvious, like I hear all the time. I'm not having cookies, cakes, ice cream, candies, chocolates. I'm not having any of that. So it's not a sugar issue. But guess what, like I said in the example, just in a piece of toast with peanut butter, there can be excessive amounts of sugar in there, plus the processing of the carbohydrate of the bread in your body. That can be overdoing it for you. Okay.
Speaker 1:So auditing and seeing how you feel after you eat certain meals or don't eat is really important for your wellness journey, and that's something that we're going to be doing in Sugar Mama. And the third thing that I want to leave you with when it comes to Sugar Mama is that you are enjoying sweets. No one's out here for torture or restriction or like guilt tripping. That is not what we're going to be doing here. But when you have this knowledge base of food and how it works and how to read the food labels and how to spot added sugars, then it makes all the difference in you actually enjoying it.
Speaker 1:Like I told my client today. I told her look, if I'm going to have, if I am choosing to have, pastries and ice cream and cookies and chocolate and candy, that's fine, that's okay, I'm choosing to do that and I know exactly what I'm having. But let's say, I want to have a healthy meal for myself, a nutritious meal, and I'm choosing to have a slice of toast with peanut butter. I'm going to keep with that example because it's so relevant. Then I don't want to be consuming sugar that I don't even know about these extra seven grams. I want to reserve that seven grams. I want to reserve that. I want to reserve that for the cookies and the cakes and the ice creams and all of that when I'm choosing to do that, okay. So I want you to enjoy it. And also, there's something to be said about how much you're going to move, how much energy you're going to need when you're choosing to have things like this. So those are the three main things that Sugar Mama is going to cover.
Speaker 1:Right, it's not about cutting out food groups again, and restriction and bashing and like being mean to yourself and saying that you can't have these things anymore is really just that I want you to know how to make informed decisions and maybe how these decisions are impacting your health or not. I don't want you to be on the struggle bus. I don't want you to feel sick, to be struggling, to feel bloated all the time, to not have mental clarity. I don't want any of those things for you. So, really learning how to identify the hidden sugars, knowing how it's being presented in your food or not, like knowing exactly what you're eating or having a pretty good idea of that and then just being able to enjoy what you want it's a freaking game changer.
Speaker 1:Okay, so that's a little bit about the program. How do you know that this program is for you, right? So if you're consistently struggling with your cravings, especially at night, this is something you might want to consider. If you have no idea, if you're like I'm eating healthy, I'm such a healthy person, but I'm not getting the results that I want and I don't feel optimal in my body. This program, sugar Mama, is probably for you, because there's something that's probably going on in what you're eating that is not fitting you right, that it's causing you to feel that way.
Speaker 1:And if you don't know much about food aside from it tastes good. This is what I had growing up. My friend told me it was good, or social media said that this was what I should be doing Then we just need to learn a little bit more. That's it. That's it. We just need to learn a little bit more, okay. And then the third thing is if you have actual blood sugar concerns right. If you have gone to the doctor and your blood work is showing that you're pre-diabetic, if you suffer from things like PCOS again going back to the bloating if you're always bloated, if you are always fatigued and you are relying on sweets and caffeine and just snacking sugar here and there to perk you up a little bit, to give you some sort of energy, because it doesn't last throughout the day then that's another really good reason to join. If you're just confused AF okay, from all the information out here, then it's another great reason.
Speaker 1:It's one of the most foundational tools that you can learn for your health, just how blood sugar works right and how it affects you. And I was one of those people too. I was like I eat healthy, okay, I don't need help and support. And here I was pre-diabetic, af, okay, and my energy all over the place and having signs on my body that I was struggling with my blood sugar. All right, and I've been able to completely turn that around. I have helped my clients with PCOS, with pre-diabetes and all that figure things out where they have the energy. They've gotten pregnant, they've reversed their prediabetes just by learning about food and applying certain lifestyle changes. All right.
Speaker 1:So what will you know about the end of the program, like, what are you going to leave with? That's really important, right? You're going to learn how to identify these hidden sugars in your diet. You're going to learn how to identify what helps you feel good and what doesn't, what crashes your energy and what doesn't. You're going to really learn. Thanks, ai. You're going to really learn how it affects your energy levels, right? I hear it all the time. I'm so tired I am crashing. I have to have that second, third cup of coffee. I'm not sleeping well, right, and one of the main factors in that is your blood sugar being dysregulated from the moment you wake up.
Speaker 1:Okay, and then it's really hard. It's really difficult to get a hold of that again throughout the day, because, especially if you don't know what's happening, right, you're just going to go on this rollercoaster, you don't know what's happening. And then you're like, oh, but I'm eating healthy, I had oatmeal and I had this smoothie and I had a toast with peanut butter, not knowing that every single thing has been laced with so much sugar. Right, it's by design by these food companies. It's by design. So we just have to go one step ahead and really see what we're having or not, so that we can make the best choice for ourselves, because we all know that no one out here is looking out for us but me, but me and yourself, and I want to provide you with that confidence and power to look out for yourself and make these changes so that you are not exhausted, not tired, not on these sugar roller coasters, and again learn how to enjoy sweets without having such huge impacts on your health. Right, that's, that's a big one.
Speaker 1:What else? How do you know that this is not for you? Okay, how do you know this program is not for you, because it's not for everybody as well. The number one thing is if you think that is a one and done deal, that this is like a microwave program and you don't need to. You just need six weeks and you do not need to continue implementing this, what you've learned for a very long time, then this is not for you. If you are not open and willing to learning and to applying and to being curious and to being loving and graceful, right. If you want something that's hardcore and like super strict, this is not for you either. Right. We're going to enjoy ourselves, we're going to learn, we're going to grow, we're going to apply these tools.
Speaker 1:Aside from having our weekly calls, we're going to have a group chat. Okay, don't be that person in the group chat, just looking through all the messages and not engaging. We're together for such a small amount of time right. We're together for such a small amount of time that I want you to really be active and involved and participating. It's not just for you, but for everyone, right, and we're going to be together. We're going to be learning and growing. So that's what it's going to be like.
Speaker 1:We're going to meet on a weekly basis. If you guys have questions, feel free to drop them in the comments. I'm going to be answering questions that I've received and any that you drop in here, so please feel free to ask me anything you want Cool, um, so what? What is a little bit about what it's going to look like. So we're meeting every Wednesday, like today, today's Wednesday, um, at 6 30 PM Eastern time. We're going to be meeting for an hour.
Speaker 1:You guys are going to have the recording of the videos. As I said, you're going to have a group chat. Um, there's going to be resources that are going to be the recording of the videos. As I said, you're going to have a group chat. There's going to be resources that are going to be handed out. I'm putting together a little nice space for you guys to have this information. Attendance is kind of mandatory, right, I don't want people missing more than two meetings max if needed, but preference is that we're together. I know that one of the main things I hear is community, community, community. And this is exactly what this space is for to learn and grow in community. And because you're going to be having examples from seven other people eight including myself then there's an expansion of opportunity for growth and learning. So that is the purpose of the small, intimate group but also being present and accountable for yourself and everybody else.
Speaker 1:Cool, I'm excited for your questions. Real quick, I want to give you an overview of what each week is going to look like. It paused me because it's telling me that my battery is low, so I need to speed this up. I just want to let you know what a little bit of the weeks is going to look like. Okay, so week one, we are going to understand how we feel.
Speaker 1:Like I said from the beginning, we need to connect back to ourselves. We are so disconnected from how we feel because we have just been taught to go, go, go, undermine, override how we're feeling so that we can meet everybody's needs jobs, families, pets, everybody and we don't even know how we feel anymore. So that's number one, because I want you to notice when you're craving foods. I want you to notice when your energy is dipping. Is not this autopilot where you're just going to have some coffee or have some sugar? It's all right if you do, but I want you to notice when you're doing this and what's happening and how you're feeling. Number two is that carbs, protein, fats, veggies they all play a role. So we're going to learn about the roles of food and why this balance is important.
Speaker 1:Number three sugar and insulin. Deep dive Understanding how our blood sugar works, how it's needed for energy management, for your weight and your hormones. Insulin is a hormone, is one of the ones that are disruptive. It's so important, but you need to know how to address it. It's so important that you need to know how to address it. It has the most I don't know why I want to use the word ramifications, but it has the most effects on your overall health. Okay, it goes around destroying things if you let it get out of hand. Right, and we must address this, because all we hear is like diabetes is. Is what's it called Diabetes is? It runs in my family, is hereditary. You can't? No, yes, yes, yes, yes, you can do something about it. If you're following the same exact habits as your family, then, yes, you're most likely predisposed to get it. But what about if you just learn about food, learn about yourself and you're able to curve that for you and future generations? So week three is going to be very powerful.
Speaker 1:Number week four we're going to be decoding food labels. Food labels 101. How do we spot hidden sugars? Do you know? There's like a hundred different names for sugar? Hidden sugars, do you know? There's like a hundred different names for sugar? It's not just sugar on the label, there's so many different ways. So sometimes we're just grabbing foods that we think are perfectly healthy Yogurt, bread, peanut butter, tomato sauce and we don't even realize how much sugar is in each, every single one of those products, if we're not all of them, but most likely the most popular ones, the most the ones that are marketed to communities of color are. And that's what we want to start to review and analyze and get into the habit of looking for.
Speaker 1:Number five is building week. Five is building balance in our meals. Right, how do we build a more balanced meal so that our blood sugar is a lot more in control than just piling stuff on a plate not knowing how it's going to affect us and make us feel? This whole thing of food coma is a blood sugar crash? Okay, that's what it is. Is a blood sugar crash, this food coma situation? That that's, that's what it is. Is a blood sugar crash, this food coma situation? Um, and it's just so normalized in our community. Or people opening up their pants because you know they're so full. Right, I didn't know that I can be full and I can eat a full meal and not feel like I'm gonna explode like a freaking oompa loompa. New y York City, sirens they go like this New York City and sirens. Okay, so how do we build a more balanced plate so that we're helping our blood sugar, we're feeling full, satisfied and ready to go?
Speaker 1:And week six we're going to put all together baby reflections, coaching, celebrations, tweaks, questions and just know that between each week we're going to have a really popping group chat and you guys are also going to have a tiny little bit of homework to help with reflection and tracking. Okay, because when you start writing things down, you have something to think about, is easier for it to stay Cool. I hope you're excited because I am All right. So the program is going to run from April 23rd to May 28th. Okay, is after all, the good stuff Is after Lent, is after spring break, for, like New York City, new York City public schools have a spring break all the way in April. Okay, so is after that. It's not going to interfere with Memorial Day.
Speaker 1:So just look through your calendar. Look at what you have going on on Wednesdays, okay, cause the calls are going to be Wednesdays at 6 30 Eastern time. Right, you're going to have a replay. You're going to be on zoom. We're going to have the group chat. There's only eight spots available actually currently seven because we have officially somebody in the program and the last day to join is April 9th Okay, because I want to take those two weeks to between April 9th and April 23rd to really get the ball rolling on everybody that's in the program.
Speaker 1:I am going to be sending questionnaires to you so that I can tailor some of the information directly to the challenges that the people inside the group is having. So I want to make it a little bit more personalized, even though it's in group format. So all of that is going to go down between those two weeks. Cool, all right.
Speaker 1:Let's get to the questions. I have some here that people have been messaging me about, and if you have some of your own, drop them here in the comment section, right, I don't know. Oh, there's a Q&A box too. I didn't even realize I had that. Drop it somewhere there, okay, all right.
Speaker 1:So one of the first questions I received was is this program good for anyone, or are you accepting people with a specific diagnosis, like PACOS or diabetes? And the answer is that this is open to everyone, as long as your goal is to learn. You want to learn about food, you want to know how blood sugar is affecting you, you want to find hidden sugars in your food, and all that. So you don't need to have a specific diagnosis to join the program, right? If you have PCOS, if you have diabetes, it can absolutely be a great program to you to learn these foundations about food, but you don't have to have that. So all you really need to have is a desire to want to be part of it and learn. That really is it. And the commitment to want to show up. All right.
Speaker 1:So is this just for people who want to quit sugar? Is Sugar Mama just for people who want to quit sugar? No, we're not quitting sugar. That is not what we're doing. We're not sucking the fun out of life. Okay, we still want to enjoy these things, but what we are doing is learning about sugar and educating ourselves around it and learning how to enjoy it in a way that is also protecting our health. All right, that that's all we're doing. We are just learning more about it. We're not quitting sugar Again, we're not sucking off the joy out of life, but it's not a free for all either.
Speaker 1:All right, they asked what is the format of Zoom calls? All right, so the format of the Zoom calls is going to be I'm going to be doing a little bit of teaching about 15 to 20 minutes and then we're going to go into coaching. All right, that's how the format is going to work. On sugar mama, a little bit of teaching, lots of coaching where we can bring up stuff from the homework, from the group chat. We're going to talk on the topic of the week that I just went through. Okay, so that's going to be the format of that, all in a group format.
Speaker 1:Will the calls be recorded? Yes, they will. They're going to be recorded. They're going to be uploaded to a private portal where you can have access to it. You can look back on it. I'm going to aim to have the video on there and I'm going to aim to have the audio file there, and I'm going to aim to have the audio file on there. If you just want to listen to the call, you don't have to have the video on, and I believe I'm going to be able to put a transcript on there too, if you're one of these girlies who likes to read or to follow along. So I'm going to try my best to do that, but definitely the video and the audio version is going to be there, all right.
Speaker 1:So another question was are you just going to, are you going to give us recommendation, like food swaps, or is the goal just to use sugar-free? And the answer is I am not just going to recommend to do sugar-free. Actually, I don't really like sugar-free stuff Most of the time. Number one they have sugar alcohols in there that are gut disruptors. They have other chemicals inside to try and bring in that flavor of sweetness. If you notice, everything that's sugar-free tastes sweet. So where is this coming from? It's sugar-free, okay. So where is this coming from? If it's sugar-free, okay, they're putting stuff in there. So, no, that is not going to be it. And yes, we are going to go over food substitutes. I literally have a registrar in my brain of food products, and if I don't know one or a few off the top of my head, then I go and do my research. We'll find it together, all right. So it's not just do sugar-free.
Speaker 1:Another reason why I don't like sugar-free is that if your goal is to just reduce cravings and reduce like that hard you know urge that you need sugary stuff. What happens is that your palate stays addicted to that sweetness flavor because your palate is receiving it. Your body might not be processing it is not processing it as sugar most of the time but still insulin is released because your brain is like, oh, sweet stuff is here, isn't that fascinating? Your brain is like sweet stuff is here. So you're still getting some sort of insulin response because of the sweetness that you feel on your palate and your brain and your body being a little confused here and there. So you want to pay attention to that. So that's not going to be the only thing that we're going to be doing. Not going to be the only thing that we're going to be doing.
Speaker 1:Okay, so if you have anxiety about being in a group program, I get it. Someone asked me. You know I don't know about sharing in front of other people and how I'm going to feel about that, and that's totally valid, right. It can be a little intimidating and scary to share in front of others. So what I'll share is that you have the opportunity to share as much or as little as you want to, you will still get something a lot actually out of the program, because you're going to be learning about others. I've been in group programs where I don't talk at all, certain sessions and I get so much. I get to learn so much because I feel validated and seen by what my peer is sharing. And then there were other times where I felt like being vulnerable and I wanted to open up and I knew it was a safe space for me to share and be seen and validated by my peers and my coach. So I want to share that with you.
Speaker 1:If you feel like you don't fit in or you don't got your shit together or you're the only one who is having these kinds of challenges, you're not the only one, my love. You really are not. Every single person has some sort of challenge when it comes to food. Every single person can learn something new and can grow. I think it's a really big misconception that we're the only person struggling. If not, we are a lot like other people, because everybody thinks that about themselves, especially in a world where we just see the highlight reels of people, where we're just seeing the good parts of their lives and, like I always say, I think life is half shit show, half rainbows and butterflies, but most of the time what we're seeing is the rainbows and butterflies, but most of the time what we're seeing is the rainbows and butterflies section. So anyone that's interested in this has some sort of challenge or curiosity where that is going to be a common thread amongst all of you. Right, and I do believe in divine timing, divine creation, the right people coming together at the right time. So that's exactly what I am focusing on for this right, the right people are going to show up who need this, and you're going to be right along there with everybody else.
Speaker 1:Okay, what else have they asked me? Hi, everybody, if you have questions about Sugar Mama, drop them here and I'll answer them. I'm answering questions that I have already received. I skipped it because I just remembered off the top of my head, but what I was sharing was that you get to be as vulnerable or not as you wish. Right, you would still get so much out of the program. Okay, what else have they said?
Speaker 1:Program? Okay, what else have they said? Someone said I think it might be good for me to hear from other people who are also on their health journey, and that is absolutely true. I think that a health journey a lot of times can be very lonely. I know it was for me at the beginning because I was the only one in my family and in my community taking this kind of approach to health and wellness. Now I have found people and I have found community, which is wonderful, but in the beginning it was very lonely. So this gives you a space to be in a group of women of color who you are in community with right. Everybody has this goal. I have made amazing connections, friends, all sorts of things in group programs just because we are aligned in that kind of way from the program we feel seen, we feel validated and I cherish those relationships so much because oftentimes I can't go to my immediate family or I can't go to, let's say, some of my friends to discuss these kinds of things, because it's just such a unique experience. I am so grateful for the friendships that I've made in group programs where the people there are aligned on that kind of topic, on that kind of lifestyle, so that you can keep discussing and growing together.
Speaker 1:Okay, let me know if you guys have questions about the program. But I think those were all the ones I had here. I went through a bunch of the other details right before this Q&A session. Speaker 1:I have not seen anything out here in these streets that is really focusing on the one of the foundational pieces of wellness. If you work with me one-on-one, we go through this a lot, depending on what your goals are. My one-on-one clients have a whole food tracking app where we go through this in lot, depending on what your goals are. My one-on-one clients have a whole food tracking app where we go through this in detail their pantry, their refrigerator, especially depending on what their goals are. But just knowing how food works can be a life changer.
Speaker 1:And I'm not about boring, I'm not about basic. I mean, look at me with the red lipstick and like the funky glasses, the animal print like let's not, let's not make things more dreadful and sucky and boring and restrictive than than we're already experiencing in this world. And with that said, your health is essential to the collective. We need to be well, to be sober-minded, to be clear-minded, to have able bodies, to be well to continue to fight the good fight, to show up how we want to, to use our gifts to shine our light. If you're not feeling well within, if you're always feeling bogged down and tired and not clear-minded, it's really hard to function. So learning how to use food and, in this particular instance, and sugar mama, is going to be one of the foundational pieces of your health when it comes to hidden sugars and insulin and all of that uh, is essential to keep building on from there.
Speaker 1:Okay, if you're just joining. If you have questions. Feel free to drop it in here. I am about to wrap up, but if you have a question, I'll answer that. Um and you can see the rest of it when I post this or on my podcast. Tomorrow is also going to be live there, but I want you to be well. I hope that this serves you. I'm super excited about it and, yeah, let's get the ball rolling. If you're interested in Sugar Mama, feel free to DM me, super easy. Let's have fun, let's learn and let's just enjoy our freaking food in a mindful way. Okay, I'll see you soon. Bye.
